Toretsk holds significant importance for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Russian occupation troops due to its dominant heights and the presence of spoil tips where equipment can be deployed.
This was stated by the commander of the 4th battalion of the 101st separate brigade of the General Staff's security, Bohdan Popelnukha, in an interview with "Ukrainska Pravda".
According to the military, the nature of urban combat, including in Toretsk, involves many blind spots that must be taken into account. Positions need to be arranged so that enemy forces cannot approach and storm them.
"And of course, mining and engineering activities play a significant role. Probably, the main component of defense in the city is engineering preparation," Bohdan Popelnukha noted.
The serviceman emphasized that Ukrainian defenders will strive to hold back the enemy as much as possible in the Toretsk area, but in the event of the city's occupation, just as if Russia succeeds in Chasovyi Yar, it is quite evident that the Russian occupation forces will attempt to advance towards Konstantynivka.
"After all, this is where the branching of roadways occurs, leading to the main populated areas of Donetsk region," Bohdan Popelnukha explained.
The military added that the situation in Toretsk is constantly changing, but so far, through the titanic efforts of our infantry, the central part of the city remains under our control.
