This demand was voiced during recent negotiations with a Kremlin delegation, which visited Syria for the first time since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime in the country.
According to Bloomberg, the Syrian government emphasized that concrete measures must be taken to restore the trust of Syrians in Russia, including compensation, as well as facilitating the reconstruction and recovery of affected areas.
"The new administration also stressed that the resumption of relations must rectify past mistakes," the report states.
The details regarding the compensation requirements remain unclear, and the Syrian side did not specify what form they envision for the compensation payments.
