This is attributed to positive economic activity throughout 2024, driven in part by increases in wages and social benefits for the population. As a result, the volumes of cash transactions in banks (both inflows and outflows) for 2024 exceed the pre-war levels of 2021 by an average of 11%.
At the same time, the rise in cash hryvnia withdrawals from bank branches was influenced by the population's expectations, particularly regarding the duration of the war and ongoing attacks on critical infrastructure. Therefore, citizens were motivated to build a certain cash reserve.
Traditionally, the largest volumes of cash were withdrawn from bank branches (% of total expenditures):
- for client transactions using payment cards (85.4% of total expenditures);
- to support postal operators (3.7% of total expenditures);
- for purchasing foreign currency from clients (3.3% of total expenditures).
