The amounts of state payments in the event of a serviceman's death are defined in the law “On Social and Legal Protection of Servicemen and Their Families.” Some of these amounts depend on the minimum living wage.
Thus, if a serviceman dies while performing his military duties, the amount of the one-time monetary benefit cannot be less than 15 million UAH, according to the legislation.
Additionally, the one-time monetary benefit is granted in cases where a serviceman dies or is injured during military service, but not in combat operations, specifically:
- in the case of death (or being declared missing) — from the date of death specified in the death certificate, or from the date when the court decision declaring the person missing becomes legally binding;
- in the case of disability being established — from the date indicated in the certificate of the medical and social expert commission.
