The head of the NBU, Andriy Pyshny, expressed hope that the parliament would support this initiative. In his remarks during the "We Are Ukraine" broadcast, referenced by 24 Kanal, he noted that such a decision would contribute to the restoration of historical justice.
“Step” is a traditional Ukrainian name for a coin, and according to Pyshny, returning to this terminology holds symbolic and cultural significance for Ukraine.
“The Ukrainian People's Republic even adopted relevant legislative acts in 1917, which defined that the corresponding change component of the Ukrainian hryvnia, the national currency, is the step. During the Hetmanate, the step was actively used in monetary calculations and thus had great prevalence,” said Pyshny.
