The order establishes a 180-day deadline for developing an Action Plan for artificial intelligence, which aims to create a policy "to support and strengthen America's global dominance in the field of artificial intelligence with the goal of promoting the prosperity of humanity, economic competitiveness, and national security," reports Reuters.
Trump also instructed his artificial intelligence advisor and national security assistant to work on reversing the policies and regulations set by former President Joe Biden.
Trump rescinded the 2023 order signed by his predecessor Joe Biden, which was intended to mitigate the risks that artificial intelligence poses to consumers, workers, and national security.
Biden's order required developers of artificial intelligence systems that present risks to national security, the economy, public health, or the safety of the United States to share the results of safety tests with the U.S. government in accordance with the Defense Production Act before they are made publicly available.
