The application already featured a program for verifying public figures and organizations on the platform, and now a new project has been launched that allows already verified third-party entities, such as regulators or consortia, to verify accounts.
Accounts that are verified by a third party will display a new logo next to their names instead of the blue checkmark.
“This decentralized platform for additional verification will help prevent fraud and reduce misinformation — through a unique proactive solution that sets a new security standard for social platforms,” said a statement from Telegram.
Individuals or organizations wishing to undergo authenticity verification will first need to complete the verification process and submit an application to be eligible for a verified badge. Telegram stated that organizations can use the bot API to grant or revoke verification — somewhat similar to how organizations purchase verification on X and verify their affiliated accounts. After verification, these affiliated accounts will display the organization’s logo in their profile.
