A man at Epicenter took a sweater and sports pants from the shelves worth 2975 hryvnias. He entered the hypermarket's fitting room and put on the items under military uniform, but was apprehended by a security guard during his escape attempt. This is stated in the verdict of the Vinnytsia District Court of Vinnytsia Oblast, published on February 22, 2024.
On April 20, 2023, around 7:00 PM, an individual, in a state of drug intoxication, entered the shopping center LLC "Epicenter K", took a sweater and sports pants worth 2,975 hryvnias from a shelf, and then headed to the fitting room, where there were no surveillance cameras. He put on the clothes under his military uniform after removing the "Golf" type security tags and proceeded towards the exit. A security guard caught up with him on an electric scooter and asked him to return the stolen items. The individual only removed and returned the sweater and then disappeared.
During the court hearing, the man fully admitted his guilt. According to him, in mid-April of last year, while on rotation after four concussions, he went to the "Epicenter" store intending to buy himself a tracksuit, but being in a state of drug intoxication, he decided not to pay for the items and instead steal the sweater and pants by removing the store's security tags, after which he was stopped by the security staff. He returned the stolen items to the store employees. He committed this crime due to drug use related to his time in the war and intense psychological and emotional distress, expressing regret for his actions and asking the court for leniency, as he wishes to return to his comrades.
The court found the man guilty of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced under Article 69 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine to a term of imprisonment for 1 year.
