Elon Musk's company SpaceX is developing a conceptual version of Starlink for Mars. This project was mentioned during a meeting of the Mars Exploration Program Analysis Group, which supports NASA missions on the Red Planet.
NASA officials stated that the space agency is purchasing commercial services from aerospace companies to assist in exploring Mars, reports the specialized publication SpaceFlight Now on its X page. This includes a potential contract with SpaceX, which currently provides its Starlink satellite internet system to over 4 million users on Earth.
SpaceX's concept, named Marslink, was among two other ideas for developing "next-generation relay services" capable of transmitting data at speeds of 4 Mbps or more, but at a distance of 1.5 astronomical units, which corresponds to the current distance between Mars and the Sun.
