The new tool is called Operator. OpenAI describes it as "an agent that can go online and perform tasks on your behalf," adding that it is trained to interact with "buttons, menus, and text fields that people use daily" on the internet.
It can also ask follow-up questions to further personalize the tasks it performs, such as regarding login information for other websites. Users can take control of the screen at any moment.
“Operator is one of our first AI agents capable of independently doing work for you,” wrote OpenAI. “You give it a task, and it completes it.”
Currently, Operator is available only for ChatGPT Pro users in the USA. It can be found at Operator.ChatGPT.com. OpenAI stated that it plans to gradually expand access to Plus, Team, and Enterprise users, as well as integrate Operator into ChatGPT. The company also mentioned that it is currently facing challenges with certain tasks, such as managing calendars and creating slide shows.
