One of the highest pensions in Ukraine is received by former judges. For instance, in the Lviv region, 145 former judges are entitled to lifelong monetary support.
As noted by Halyna Nidzelska, the head of the Pension Fund of Lviv region, the average pension for judges reaches 112,000 hryvnias per month.
In comparison, as of January 1, 2024, there were 671,000 pensioners residing in the Lviv region. The monthly expenses for pension payments in the area amount to approximately 3.6 billion hryvnias.
The pension amount for judges is determined by a special formula that takes into account their service length and salary level. The minimum pension for a judge is equal to 50% of their salary at the time of retirement.
For each additional year of service beyond 20 years, an extra 2% is added to the pension. For example:
- for 30 years of service, the pension amounts to 70% of the salary;
- for 40 years — the maximum possible 90%.
