The Competition Bureau of Canada has filed a lawsuit against Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, accusing the company of anti-competitive behavior in online advertising.
In its statement, the Bureau announced that it has submitted a complaint to the Competition Tribunal requesting an order that, among other things, requires Google to divest two of its advertising tools. The regulator is also seeking to impose a fine on Google to ensure compliance with Canadian antitrust laws.
“Google compels market participants to use its own tools, depriving other companies of the opportunity to compete on service quality and otherwise distorting the competitive process,” the government regulator noted.
