The transition team of newly elected President Donald Trump interviewed Paul Atkins, former SEC commissioner and a respected figure in conservative financial circles, as a candidate for the position of Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Atkins is the leading contender to succeed Gary Gensler, who is stepping down. Trump is expected to make a decision in the coming days, and no choices have been finalized yet.
The current SEC commissioner, Mark Uyeda, former Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chair Heath Tarbert, and Robert Stebbins, a partner at the law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, are also among those being considered for the role.
