The IMF experts have analyzed the population in Ukraine and have revised their forecasts for the upcoming year. According to their predictions, Ukrainians will not start returning home until at least 2026, states the Fund's materials.
Before the full-scale war, in 2021, Ukraine had a population of 41 million. As of 2024, this number has decreased to 34 million.
According to the IMF's calculations, Ukraine's population is expected to change in the coming years as follows:
- 2024 — 33.4 million people, aligning with the April forecast.
- 2025 — 33 million people;
- 2026 — 34.2 million people;
- 2027 — 34.5 million people;
- 2028 — also 34.5 million people (the forecast has been lowered from the April estimate of 36 million people).
