Highest Earnings
In 2023, the restaurant industry in Ukraine is showing signs of recovery after the downturn in 2022. The net income of the sector reached 31.6 billion UAH, which is 121% higher compared to 2022 (17.3 billion UAH) and 26% greater than the figures from 2021 (25 billion UAH).
The number of active companies increased by nearly 30%: from 2.6 thousand in 2022 to over 3.5 thousand in 2023:
- Kiev generates 72% of the industry's revenue (23 billion UAH) and serves as the center of the gastronomic industry with more than 1.2 thousand companies;
- Dnipropetrovsk region ranks second in revenue — 1.6 billion UAH (5%), with over 200 active companies;
- Lviv region is third, with a revenue of 1.4 billion UAH (4.4%) and more than 400 companies.
The highest growth in revenue was observed in Kiev — more than 2.5 times (23 billion UAH in 2023 compared to 8.9 billion UAH in 2022). Significant growth was also recorded:
- in Rivne region (+128%), where revenue rose to 266 million UAH;
- in Kherson region (+122%), with revenue of 26.8 million UAH due to the liberation of territories.
Donetsk region showed a record increase (+570%), but this data is based only on three companies that submitted reports.
Leadership
McDonald’s remains the undisputed leader of the restaurant sector in Ukraine, earning over 12.9 billion UAH in 2023 (almost 40% of the industry’s revenue). The company's revenue growth was 297%.
