Chromecast
In 2024, Google will discontinue the Chromecast streaming dongle line, which began in 2013 with a device priced at $35 that transformed HDMI-equipped TVs into smart TVs. Chromecast was known for its straightforward content streaming without complicated setup, utilizing Google Cast technology that allowed smartphone apps to display content on the TV. The "Cast" button in apps like YouTube or Netflix provided convenient connectivity. Now, Google has replaced Chromecast with the Google TV Streamer device.
Google Jamboard
Jamboard is a digital collaboration board introduced by Google in 2017 as a competitor to Microsoft's Surface Hub. It featured a 55-inch 4K touchscreen display, operated on Android, integrated with Google G Suite, and was priced at $4999 (with an additional $1199 for the stand). The device, weighing around 50 kg, included a webcam, speakers, microphone, USB, HDMI, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and NFC. Google announced that Jamboard will stop receiving updates on September 30, and the application will become unavailable on December 31, 2024.
Google Podcasts
Google Podcasts launched in 2018 as an Android application, continuing efforts to revive podcasting after the shutdown of Google Listen and Google Play Music. In 2023, Google decided to close the service as users preferred YouTube. Podcasts were migrated to YouTube Music, establishing it as a "centralized hub for podcasts." Access to Google Podcasts was closed in April, offering tools to transfer subscriptions to YouTube Music or download an OPML file for other applications.
