Trump is urging the Supreme Court to suspend the TikTok ban.

Трамп обращается в Верховный суд с просьбой приостановить запрет на TikTok.

Recently elected President Donald Trump has appealed to the Supreme Court requesting a pause on the potential TikTok ban until his administration can find a "political solution" to the matter. This was reported by Bloomberg, as noted by UNN.

Details

The publication states that Trump has asked the court for time after the inauguration on January 20 to seek a political resolution to the dispute.

It is emphasized that such a suspension would allow Trump to "achieve a political solution."

In his appeal, Trump also mentioned that he possesses "outstanding deal-making skills, a mandate from voters, and the political will to negotiate a solution that preserves the platform while addressing the government’s national security concerns."

This appeal from Trump came after TikTok and the Biden administration submitted their written arguments to the court on Friday.

The Justice Department, led by Biden's appointees, stated that China's control over TikTok poses serious national security threats. U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar noted that the platform collects sensitive data on tens of millions of Americans and could serve as a powerful tool for covert influence operations by foreign adversaries.

In response, TikTok asserted that Congress has not considered alternatives other than a ban.

Although Trump previously supported a TikTok ban, he has recently shown a more favorable attitude towards the platform. This month, he stated that he has warm feelings towards TikTok, as it helped attract young voters to his side during the elections in November.

Reminder

The U.S. Court of Appeals declined to pause the TikTok ban, which is set to take effect on January 19, 2025. ByteDance must sell the app, or it will be removed from American app stores.
