U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an order reversing Joe Biden's 2021 decision, which aimed for half of all new vehicles sold in the U.S. to be electric or hybrid by 2030. This information comes from UNN citing The Guardian and Reuters.
Details
It has been noted that Donald Trump criticized federal support for electric vehicle (EV) sales amid a flurry of promised orders on his first day back in the White House.
Donald Trump announced the termination of the use of leftover federal funds amounting to $5 billion for the construction of electric vehicle charging stations. He called for the cancellation of state initiatives aimed at implementing zero-emission vehicle regulations by 2035.
The U.S. President also expressed his intention to revoke California's permission to halt the sale of vehicles that run solely on gasoline by 2035. This similar initiative has already been supported by 11 other states.
According to Reuters, Donald Trump plans to direct the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to review rules that impose stricter emission standards. Specifically, under these rules, electric vehicles are required to account for 30% to 56% of all sales by automakers.
Overall, the Trump administration is expected to consider the repeal of subsidies and market incentives that favor electric vehicles.
Reminder
Donald Trump canceled Biden's recent decision to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. Biden's decision was part of an agreement with the Catholic Church for the release of 553 political prisoners.
